Stop in and see your athletic trainer or any member of the sports medicine staff and we will help you get set up! Keep in mind, all information discussed in your counseling session is completely confidential, it is confidential that you are seeing a counselor if you wish. Your athletic trainer can help you coordinate care and is bound by FERPA and HIPPA to respect your wishes of confidentiality. If you are not ready to discuss setting up mental health services with your athletic trainer yet, you may still call Halcyon directly at 1-888-425-4800 to establish care. At some point, Halcyon will ask you to have a billing waiver signed so that we can cover the cost of your visits after your 6 no-cost visits.
Below are some FAQs to help you get started.
Visit your athletic trainer in The Meyers Family Sports Medicine Center, and they will help get you set up! Your athletic trainer will find a private place for you to speak alone with the Halcyon team representative about what you are looking for in mental health assistance, and to set you up with a provider. Your athletic trainer can assist you with transportation if needed or any other part of coordinating your care you might need.
Plan for your initial assessment call with Halcyon to take 15-20 minutes.
In most cases you will be set up with a provider and an appointment time within 48-72 hours from your initial phone assessment. Depending on your schedule, and the availability of the provider you are assigned with, you will usually be seen within a few days of being referred. Your initial call to Halcyon will be answered by a licensed counselor that can give you helpful information as part of your assessment. You will be given the phone number of a provider that will best fit your needs and it is important that you reach out as soon as you get the number to confirm your appointment time.
If you have an immediate need to speak with someone before or between appointments, your athletic trainer can put you in touch with someone by phone or you may call Halcyon back to speak with a licensed counselor 24/7 at 1-888-425-4800.Pay attention to phone calls you might not recognize and be sure to have your voicemail set up so they can leave important information related to your appointment.
It is understandable to be nervous about reaching out for help. As athletic trainers, we want you to know that it is our goal to help keep you healthy in every way and that includes mental health! Your athletic trainer is bound by FERPA and HIPPA to respect your wishes of confidentiality. However, if you are not ready to reach out to your athletic trainer yet, you have the option of calling Halcyon Behavioral on your own to establish your care. If you are not ready to discuss setting up mental health services with your athletic trainer yet, you may still call Halcyon directly at 1-888-425-4800 to establish care. At some point, Halcyon will ask you to have a billing waiver signed so that we can cover the cost of your visits after your 6 no-cost visits. Even if you sign a waiver that allows the sports medicine staff to cover the cost of your sessions, always know that the content of your visits are not shared with anyone and remain confidential.
Halcyon Behavioral contracts with mental health professionals nationwide and specifically from all over the Fresno/Clovis area. Your appointment will be located in the office of your provider. After you have established care, if getting to your appointments is difficult or you are home on break, Halcyon has the ability to do scheduled video, telephone and web chat counseling sessions to keep you connected!
Only the athletic trainer you appoint as your personal representative will know about your mental health referrals. This does not have to be your team athletic trainer if you do not want it to be, it can be the Director of Sports Medicine or any sports medicine staff member. This person will only receive your time/date and provider name, no other information is released unless you specify. These types of referrals are not reported to coaching staff without your permission.

Halcyon Behavioral Health (1-888-425-4800) is a Fresno State Athletics sponsored resource that supports our student-athletes with the challenges and demands that come with balancing the life as a college student-athlete. This resource offers enhanced access to a variety of mental health services and support, such as: Stress and Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Problems, Grief and Loss, Substance Abuse, Legal Services, Anger Management, Child Care Referrals, Financial Planning, Family Issues, Identity Theft Recovery to name a few.
Halcyon gives Bulldog student-athletes 24/7/365 access to licensed counselors for assessment and confidential referral needs. After establishing a provider, they also have the technology to offer Scheduled Video, Telephone and Web Chat counseling sessions on the Halcyon EAP Website if in-person visits are not possible.
Instead of going to the Emergency Room, for mental health cases you can go to here if you are 18 years of age or older. As the Valley's only inpatient mental health facility, Community Behavioral Health Center provides 24-hour care to patients based on their individual level of need. Voluntary admittance as well as non-ambulatory patients capable of transferring themselves are both accepted.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
